I feel I have always been acutely aware of our botanical heritage. In 2009 I enrolled in a BSc and a BA at the University of New South Wales, majoring in Environmental Earth Science/Botany and Environmental Studies/History respectively. This equipped with a rounded education that has afforded me the privilege of approaching the plant world from a transdisciplinary perspective.
Since my study days I have made a living bouncing between botany-related jobs. These have included: ecological restoration, horticulture, landscaping/landscape design, and botanical consultancy. I have also written botanically-inclined articles for AIMS: Environmental Science journal, The Australian Turfgrass Management Journal, and the Indigenous Flora, and Fauna Association of Victoria's 'Indigenotes' publication.
Botany With Dom exists as a virtual scrapbook. It represents an attempt to coalesce the entangled worlds of my academic and practical experience within the two-dimensional confines of a website. My goal in doing this is to invigorate and inspire others whose passion for plants – and natural phenomena more broadly – mirrors that of my own.
From as early as I can remember, I have been enchanted by plants. For me, plants exemplify all that is important and inspiring in our world – from the tallest Mountain Ash to the smallest and most superficially insignificant bryophyte.
